Post 1: The Great Commission Starts with You

Post 1: The Great Commission Starts with You

Key Verse:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
—Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)

Blog Article:

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He left His followers with a command—not a suggestion, not a side mission, but themission: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” These words, known as the Great Commission, were spoken to a small group of disciples—but they echo through time to reach every believer today. This includes you.

You might be thinking, “But I’m not a preacher or missionary. I haven’t been trained. I don’t know what to say.” But the Great Commission was never meant for professionals alone. It’s a calling for every follower of Christ. It’s not just about going across the ocean—it’s about going across the street, reaching across the lunch table, or even reaching out online.

The original Greek for “Go” in Matthew 28:19 is often interpreted as “As you go.” This means it’s not necessarily about uprooting your life—it’s about being on mission as you go about your life. Wherever you are, you are Christ’s ambassador. Your words, your actions, your compassion, your testimony—all are tools that the Holy Spirit can use to reach the lost.

Jesus didn’t say, “If you feel ready, go.” He said, “Go.” That means readiness comes through obedience. When you step out in faith, He equips you. When you speak up, He speaks through you. The Great Commission starts with His authority, continues through your obedience, and ends with His presence—“Lo, I am with you always.”

So today, pause and consider: What does it look like to live on mission right where you are? Who in your life needs to hear the Good News? The Great Commission isn’t about waiting for the perfect moment—it’s about being faithful in the everyday.

Reflection Questions (with Responses):

1. Why is it important that every believer—not just pastors or missionaries—takes part in the Great Commission?
Because Jesus’ command was given to all disciples, not just a select few. The global mission requires all of us—each with our unique circle of influence.

2. What does “As you go” mean for how we share the Gospel in daily life?
It means we’re called to live on mission wherever we are—at work, school, home, or in the grocery store. Every place we go is an opportunity.

3. What holds you back from sharing your faith, and how can you trust God to overcome that fear?
Many struggle with fear, inadequacy, or uncertainty. But God promises to be with us. Trusting His presence and relying on the Holy Spirit brings courage and clarity.

Application:
This week, look for one opportunity each day to be intentional about your witness. It might be a kind word, a shared Bible verse, or an open conversation. Start with prayer each morning: “Lord, help me see where You’re sending me today.” You may be surprised where He leads.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting us with Your Great Commission. Forgive us when we hesitate. Give us courage to go, boldness to speak, and love to reach others for You. Help us to live every moment with purpose and mission, knowing that You go with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
