No More Excuses: Sharing Jesus Without Fear
No More Excuses: Sharing Jesus Without Fear
We’ve all been there—standing at the edge of a moment when we know we should speak about Jesus, but instead we shrink back. Our minds race with fear: What if they ask something I can’t answer? What if I offend them? What if I sound foolish? Before we know it, the opportunity passes, and we comfort ourselves with reasons that sound like wisdom, but in truth—they’re excuses.Jesus gave us a mission before He ascended into heaven: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” (Matthew 28:19, NKJV). This Great Commission wasn’t a suggestion or a spiritual elective—it was a command, a calling for every believer. Yet so many followers of Christ feel paralyzed by fear, held back by insecurity, or sidelined by a false sense that evangelism is only for “certain kinds of Christians.”
But here’s the truth: if you have received Jesus, you are qualified to share Him. The only real barrier is fear—and fear often disguises itself as an excuse.
Let’s expose some of the most common excuses and find freedom in the truth of God’s Word.
Excuse #1: “I don’t know enough.”
Many Christians hesitate to share the Gospel because they feel they lack knowledge. But the early believers didn’t have seminary degrees or carefully crafted apologetics. What they had was a testimony.
In John 9, a blind man healed by Jesus is questioned about how it happened. He doesn’t try to explain theology. He simply says, “One thing I do know: I was blind and now I see” (John 9:25, NIV).
You don’t need to explain every doctrine. You just need to tell what Jesus did in your life. Your story is powerful because it’s real—and no one can argue with a changed life.
Excuse #2: “What if they reject me?”
Rejection is painful, but it’s not the end. Jesus Himself was rejected by many—and He warned His followers it would happen. “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first” (John 15:18).
Rejection of the message is not rejection of you—it’s a spiritual struggle. Your role is obedience, not outcome. Someone else may water the seed you plant. God promises to give the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Our job isn’t to convince—it’s to speak with love and leave the rest to the Holy Spirit.
Excuse #3: “I’m not good at evangelism.”
You don’t have to be a gifted speaker to be a faithful witness. Acts 1:8 says, “You will be My witnesses...” Witnesses don’t fabricate—they simply testify. You don’t have to perform; you have to share.
Think of Moses, who told God he wasn’t eloquent. God replied, “Who gave human beings their mouths?... Now go; I will help you speak” (Exodus 4:11–12, NIV).
Evangelism isn’t about your strength—it’s about God’s presence with you.
Excuse #4: “It’s not the right time.”
We tell ourselves we’ll speak up next time. But “next time” is a mirage. James 4:14 reminds us that we don’t know what tomorrow holds.
Paul charged Timothy to “preach the word… in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2). That means we don’t wait for perfect circumstances—we obey when prompted.
If the Spirit nudges you, that is the right time.
Excuse #5: “I don’t want to offend anyone.”
Truth spoken in love may still offend—but silence cannot save. We’re not called to be abrasive, but neither are we called to hide. Ephesians 4:15 calls us to “speak the truth in love.”
Imagine a friend walking toward a cliff. Would you say nothing to avoid offending them? Of course not. Love speaks up. Eternity is too important for comfort to win.
The Real Issue: Fear
At the heart of every excuse is fear—fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of inadequacy. But Scripture speaks directly to this: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…” (1 John 4:18).
Love for Christ and for the lost should outweigh our fear. The more we love people, the more we care about their eternal future. And the more we love Jesus, the more willing we are to share His message—regardless of the cost.
When we grasp the weight of eternity, fear begins to fade. When we realize we are not alone—God is with us in every conversation—courage begins to rise.
No More Excuses—The Time Is Now
So where do we go from here?
We stop letting fear make our decisions. We stop waiting to be “ready.” We stop telling ourselves that someone else will do it.
Instead, we rise. We speak. We go.
Not because we are perfect, but because He is worthy.
Not because we are confident in ourselves, but because we trust the One who sends us.
You may never preach on a stage, but you can preach with your life. You can speak one sentence of hope. You can hand someone a Bible. You can listen, love, and point to Jesus. You can say, “Let me tell you what He did for me.”
And that may be exactly what someone else is waiting to hear.
The world needs bold believers—those who aren’t fearless, but faithful. Those who won’t let excuses define their mission. Those who know that God is bigger than their limitations.
Every moment matters. Every soul matters.
And you matter—because someone may only hear about Jesus through you.
So, step out. Speak up. Trust God.
And share Jesus—without fear.
